Curating a playlist for a dinner
Launch library · evergreen read

Dinner playlists generally favour songs that quietly support conversation rather than compete with it directly, keeping a sense of energy present in the room but never so prominent that it pulls attention away from the actual people gathered at the table, never loud enough to force anyone to raise their voice across the table.
Instrumentation with fewer sharp, sudden dynamic shifts tends to work considerably best here, since a jarring change in volume can noticeably interrupt conversation in a way that a steadier, more even arrangement running underneath the meal simply will not manage to do, a difference most guests would struggle to name but would certainly notice.
Tempo also plays a meaningful role in this context, with moderate paced songs generally suiting a relaxed dinner setting rather better than either very slow, sleep inducing tracks on one end or very fast, high energy ones on the other, both extremes risk pulling attention away from the conversation happening at the table.
