A genuinely durable playlist tends to favour songs with real staying power over ones tied tightly to a specific, fleeting cultural moment, ensuring the whole set still feels properly relevant and worth returning to several years down the line, a filter that takes real discipline to apply consistently over time.
This does not necessarily mean avoiding newer music altogether, but rather choosing tracks specifically for their lasting qualities, whether melody, arrangement or overall feeling, rather than for sheer novelty alone, which tends to fade considerably faster than genuine craft ever does, a distinction that only becomes obvious with the benefit of real hindsight.
