The value of leaving space between songs

A brief pause or a gentle fade placed between two tracks can give a listener genuine room to register what they have just heard, rather than moving immediately and without any real pause straight into whatever song comes next, a small pause that costs nothing and often adds a great deal.
This small gap proves especially valuable after an emotionally intense or musically dense track has just finished playing, allowing its impact to properly settle before something entirely new begins competing for the listener's attention all over again, especially when the track that follows arrives with a very different energy.
Not every transition genuinely needs this kind of space, but its occasional, well judged use can make a playlist feel considered rather than simply reading as one continuous, unbroken stream of sound with no room left to breathe, used too often, though, the same pause can start to feel like hesitation.
