A synthesizer generates sound electronically rather than through a vibrating string or a column of moving air, giving it access to tones that purely acoustic instruments simply cannot produce on their own, no matter how skilfully they happen to be played by even the most accomplished musician, a distinction that becomes obvious the moment two very different sounding tracks are compared.

Musicians shape these sounds by adjusting parameters like waveform, filtering and envelope, essentially sculpting a tone from raw electronic signal into something quite specific, whether warm and organic feeling or sharp and genuinely futuristic depending on exactly how those controls are set, a process that rewards patience and a genuinely trained ear over pure trial and error.
